Systems Safety Engineer

About the role

Raytheon Australia is seeking a Systems Safety Engineer to support the Australian Defence Air Traffic System (ADATS). You will provide safety expertise across sustainment, life‑extension, obsolescence and modernisation activities, ensuring the system remains safe and compliant.

Key responsibilities

• Own and maintain safety cases for ADATS systems throughout their lifecycle.
• Lead hazard identification, risk assessment and safety analysis for legacy equipment and new design changes.
• Review safety impact of design changes and ensure traceability to defence standards and DASR requirements.
• Facilitate system safety working groups and represent Raytheon at safety governance forums.
• Develop and maintain hazard logs, safety cases and safety data sheets.
• Provide safety expertise during design reviews, installation planning and transition activities across multiple Defence sites.
• Liaise with Commonwealth and airworthiness authorities on safety matters.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Engineering degree with system safety qualification(s).
• Demonstrated experience in hazard identification and analysis (Preliminary Hazard Analysis, Health Hazard Analysis, System Hazard Analysis).
• Proven expertise developing and reviewing safety cases for complex systems.
• Strong understanding of Defence/military safety standards and Australian safety legislation.
• Eligibility to obtain and maintain a Baseline Security clearance.

Required skills

• Hazard identification and risk assessment techniques.
• Safety case development and review.
• Knowledge of DASR and ANSP requirements.
• Occupational Health & Safety (OHS) / Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) qualifications.
• Familiarity with systems engineering tools such as DOORS.
