EL1 Lead Investigator – Queensland

About the role

The EL1 Lead Investigator will head a team delivering Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) investigation objectives, focusing on partnership with regulatory and enforcement agencies. This temporary 12‑month role is based in Brisbane and may involve domestic travel.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage a team responsible for complex, sensitive investigations, ensuring high‑quality planning, evidence collection, and reporting.
• Develop and implement innovative investigative strategies and capability building initiatives.
• Promote awareness of the department’s payment integrity framework and monitor program outcomes.
• Maintain high‑level relationships with partner agencies such as the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions and other law‑enforcement bodies.
• Support out‑of‑office investigative activities, which may require air travel and overnight stays.

Required profile

• Australian citizenship and ability to obtain and maintain Negative Vetting One security clearance and a national police check.
• Demonstrated experience handling high volumes of complex investigations to a high standard.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement, professionalism and discretion when handling sensitive information.

Required skills

• Advanced experience with the Microsoft Suite of products.
