Specialty Veterinary Nurse – VRH Dandenong

About the role

Join a specialist referral and emergency hospital as a Casual Specialty Veterinary Nurse, supporting a fast‑paced, multi‑disciplinary team. This part‑time position offers the chance to work with advanced surgical and anaesthesia technology and may evolve into a permanent part‑time role.

Key responsibilities

• Provide anaesthesia nursing for surgical, imaging and emergency procedures.
• Prepare patients for surgery, including clipping and surgical scrubbing.
• Perform theatre nursing while maintaining strict aseptic technique.
• Monitor and care for hospitalised patients.
• Assist with specialist consultations and patient checks.
• Coordinate patient handovers between departments.
• Maintain theatre equipment, sterile stores and high clinical standards.

Required profile

• Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing (or equivalent).
• At least 3 years’ experience in general practice or 1+ year in a specialist referral hospital.
• Strong interest or experience in surgery and/or anaesthesia.
• Calm, organised approach in busy clinical situations.
• Positive attitude and willingness to learn.

Required skills

• Anaesthesia monitoring.
• IV catheter placement.
• Blood collection.
• TPR (temperature, pulse, respiration) monitoring.
