Software Engineer, Digital Archive

About the role

Nine, Australia's largest locally owned media company, is looking for a Software Engineer to join its team on a 12-month contract. You will be part of a newly formed squad working on a major project: digitising and productising 120 years of Australian broadcast media, film and publications. You will help deliver the backend systems that process large volumes of audio, video and metadata, working closely with the product team.

Key responsibilities

• Build and maintain high-performance Golang backend services and APIs so the media archive is searchable and accessible.
• Contribute to cloud-native solutions on AWS, developing resilient and auto-scaling microservices.
• Develop automated modules for media processing to ensure high-quality audio and video delivery to partners and teams.
• Take part in the full deployment lifecycle, regularly shipping code to test and production Kubernetes environments.
• Work in an autonomous Agile squad with product owners and peers, focusing on code quality through peer reviews and testing.
• Keep up with DevOps practices and new technologies in the modern tech stack.

Required profile

• 2 years of experience in software engineering roles.
• Strong understanding of scripting and coding languages and frameworks such as Go, JavaScript, React, Python and Bash.
• Experience with AWS and/or GCP services, including compute, storage, networking and security.
• Knowledge of database technologies such as PostgreSQL.
• Solid understanding of networking concepts and protocols.
• Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

Required skills

• Infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform.
• CI/CD pipelines and automation tools such as Jenkins, TeamCity and GitLab CI.
• Monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, ELK stack or similar.
• Containerisation technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
