Social Visitor Volunteer – Residential Care

About the role

HammondCare Darlinghurst is looking for a social visitor to spend time with an older woman living in residential care. She was born in Kenya, later lived in the UK and now lives in Australia; she enjoys sharing stories from a life of travel, family and experience. Her eyesight makes reading difficult, but she loves learning, conversation, documentaries about animals, music, trivia and cheering on the Sydney Swans. Visits may include sharing a coffee and a chat, playing Scrabble, watching a documentary together or simply enjoying each other's company.

Key responsibilities

• Visit weekly or fortnightly, on Wednesdays or Thursdays, after 10:00 am
• Share a coffee and a chat, play Scrabble, watch a documentary or simply enjoy each other's company
• Provide regular companionship to help reduce isolation and improve quality of life

Required profile

• 18 years or older
• NDIS Worker Screening Check arranged and paid for by HammondCare
• Not suitable for work experience, student placements or practical placement requirements
• Minimum 6-month commitment

HammondCare is an independent Christian charity providing the Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme, funded by the Australian Government.
