SMSF Senior Accountant

About the role

An established accounting and advisory firm is looking for an SMSF Accountant to join its team. The role offers ownership of client work, close collaboration with managers and partners on SMSF accounting, taxation and compliance matters, and a collaborative environment that values professional development and teamwork.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare SMSF financial statements, annual accounts and tax returns for review.
• Manage day-to-day client requirements and understand their needs.
• Review financial information and flag issues needing attention.
• Prepare activity statements, TBARs and other statutory documentation.
• Liaise with external SMSF auditors and respond to audit queries.
• Communicate with the ATO and help resolve client matters where required.
• Build client relationships and attend client meetings with managers and partners.
• Support junior team members and help improve internal processes and systems.

Required profile

• Accounting professional with a solid technical foundation and interest in developing a career in SMSF.
• Ideally holds a CA or CPA qualification.
• Experience in SMSF accounting, taxation and compliance.
• Strong communication skills and good analytical skills with attention to detail.
• Able to work independently in a supportive team.

Required skills

• Confident use of Excel and accounting software.
• Advantageous: experience with BGL Simple Fund 360 or Class, and membership of the SMSF Association.
