Senior Psychologist (Geriatric Medicine)

About the role

Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane is looking for a Senior Psychologist to join its Psychology team and deliver specialist care to older people with complex cognitive, psychological and behavioural needs. The role contributes to the development of psychology services within a collaborative hospital team.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver specialist psychology assessment, intervention and care for older people with cognitive, emotional and behavioural difficulties, including dementia and complex behavioural and psychological symptoms of dementia (BPSD)
• Provide clinical advice and support to the Acute Cognitive Unit and the wider multidisciplinary team
• Contribute to evidence-based clinical practice, service development, quality improvement and research initiatives
• Provide supervision, education and support to junior clinicians, students and Allied Health Assistants

Required profile

• Demonstrated expertise in older people's mental health, cognition, dementia and complex behavioural and psychological symptoms
• Experience in clinical supervision, education and support, and in contributing to service improvement initiatives
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to give clinical advice and navigate complex team situations
• Excellent clinical reasoning, prioritisation and workload management in a fast-paced hospital environment
