Senior Product Designer
pay.com.au · Melbourne
Job description
About the role
pay.com.au is a fast-growing Australian technology scale-up building a unified platform that lets businesses link bank accounts and credit cards to improve cash flow and earn rewards. Its Melbourne office is described as a creative, collaborative hub. As Senior Product Designer, you will not own one corner of the product but pick up work across the platform (currently Rewards, innovation squads and product-led growth), from understanding the problem to checking it after launch. Briefs often come as open problems or with a strong hypothesis, and the team uses AI to handle the repetitive parts of the process.
Key responsibilities
- Pick up and deliver design work across the platform, from problem understanding through shipped UI, QA and post-launch checks.
- Move between product areas quickly, learning new customers, constraints and numbers.
- Use AI throughout the process (research synthesis, exploring directions, prototyping, documentation) and help find and automate parts of the job that do not need a designer.
- Work with Product Managers and Tech Leads to sharpen a brief and push back when it is not right.
- Collaborate with graphic and digital designers so product and marketing feel like one brand.
- Keep the design system healthy: reuse what exists, evolve it and make new patterns reusable.
- Maintain quality standards (accessibility, consistency, no misleading users) and help lift team rituals such as critique and documentation.
Required profile
- Strong product design experience with a portfolio of shipped end-to-end work on complex web applications, not concepts.
- Experience shipping across more than one product area, domain or customer type, turning work around in days.
- Excellent craft across interaction, visual and accessibility design, with judgement on when to reuse or create patterns.
- Fluent researcher who picks the method, runs it and turns findings into direction.
- Comfortable with Product: able to sharpen a brief, disagree well and arrive with a better idea.
- Uses AI across research, exploration, writing, documentation and prototyping in code (e.g. Claude Code, Cursor, Figma Make); automation of parts of your own workflow is a bonus.
- Nice to have: designing AI-assisted experiences, payments/B2B/fintech experience, design system contribution, reading data and experiment results, and enough HTML/CSS to work with engineers.
Required skills
- Highly proficient in Figma
- Interaction, visual and accessibility design
- Research and prototyping
What we offer
- Flexible working arrangements and a great work-life balance
- Learning budgets to accelerate your career
- A collaborative, creative culture in a growing team across Australia and the USA
Candidates must complete a National Police Record Check. Applicants requiring adjustments during recruitment are encouraged to ask.
