Senior Medical Officer (Urgent Care / Minor Injury & Illness)

About the role

Meadowbrook Health Centre, part of Metro South Health, is opening a new Minor Injury and Illness Clinic and a Women's Health Outpatient Clinic. The Senior Medical Officer provides expert clinical assessment, treatment and decision-making in the clinic's extended-hours, seven-day-a-week service, working with a multidisciplinary team to support junior colleagues and improve community-based care.

Key responsibilities

• Assess, diagnose and manage patients with urgent, non-life-threatening injuries and illnesses within the clinic's scope of practice.
• Perform clinical procedures such as wound management and suturing, slit lamp examinations, superficial foreign body removal, incision and drainage of abscesses, and management of uncomplicated fractures and minor injuries.
• Recognise clinical deterioration and arrange stabilisation, escalation, referral or transfer.
• Provide senior clinical guidance, supervision and education to junior medical staff and students.

Required profile

• Experienced medical practitioner committed to safe, high-quality care in a fast-paced environment.
• Specialist Medical Registration, or eligibility for registration, with the Medical Board of Australia through AHPRA in General Practice or Emergency Medicine.
• Ability to supervise clinically, collaborate across disciplines and support a respectful team culture.
• Strong communication with patients, families, carers and healthcare professionals.
