Senior Lawyer – Markets Legal

About the role

ANZ is seeking a Senior Lawyer to join its Markets Legal team. You will help shape legal capability, drive efficiency and manage risk across a range of financial market products. This permanent position offers the chance to work with senior stakeholders and influence key business decisions.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clear, practical, commercially‑focused legal advice on transactions, products and infrastructure across foreign exchange, rates, credit, commodities, money markets, capital markets and related arrangements.
• Monitor, assess and advise on legal and regulatory developments affecting the Australian Markets business, including derivatives, securities, deposits, payments and market conduct.
• Support continuous improvement of legal advisory, approval and documentation processes, focusing on quality, consistency, efficiency and risk management.
• Establish and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders (front‑office, risk, compliance, operations, credit, finance, treasury, technology) and external law firms.
• Act as a senior member of the Markets Legal team, modelling ANZ’s values through accountable, collaborative and customer‑focused behaviour.

Required profile

• Extensive experience advising on financial markets transactions, derivatives, securities, structured products, capital markets or financial markets infrastructure, gained at a major institution.
• Strong leadership, presentation and influencing skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders.
