Senior Lawyer – Legislation

About the role

The Senior Lawyer, Legislation provides high‑quality legal and legislative advice across the Department, supporting transport and planning portfolios. The role involves developing Bills, regulations and other statutory instruments and offering strategic advice on complex legal and policy matters.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and deliver primary and subordinate legislation, including Bills and regulations.
• Provide strategic, authoritative advice on constitutional, administrative and statutory interpretation issues.
• Conduct research, analysis and draft or review legal and legislative documents.
• Manage stakeholder interests and identify emerging legal issues affecting the State.

Required profile

• Admitted lawyer in Victoria with experience in government, corporate or private practice.
• Strong expertise in constitutional and administrative law and legislative processes.
• Proven ability to lead significant reform projects under tight deadlines.
• Australian citizenship, permanent residency or valid work permit.

Required skills

• Legislative drafting and statutory interpretation.
• Strategic legal advisory for complex policy matters.
