Manager – Group Sanctions

About the role

The Manager – Group Sanctions will lead the design, maintenance and implementation of ANZ's enterprise sanctions, proliferation financing and export control programmes. You will provide specialist regulatory analysis and advice to strengthen sanctions risk management across the bank.

Key responsibilities

• Support the design, development and maintenance of sanctions policies, standards and guidance aligned with legislative obligations and ANZ's risk appetite.
• Interpret sanctions, proliferation financing and export control laws and translate them into clear, proportionate enterprise requirements.
• Provide subject‑matter expertise to Financial Crime, Risk, Legal and business stakeholders, and contribute to training and communications.
• Analyse global sanctions regulation and geopolitical developments to improve policy and standards.
• Engage with regional risk officers, MLROs and specialist teams to assess local regulatory impacts and support coordinated responses.

Required profile

• Strong knowledge of sanctions, export control and proliferation financing regulatory requirements and supervisory expectations for a financial institution.
• Demonstrated ability to translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical, risk‑based controls and business requirements.
• Experience supporting regulatory change, impact assessment, obligations management and implementation oversight.
• Highly developed written communication skills for policy documents, governance papers and regulatory content.

Required skills

• In‑depth understanding of banking products, services, customers, channels and associated financial crime risks.
• Ability to use risk assessments, data and thematic insights to evaluate framework effectiveness and prioritise improvements.
