Senior Lawyer

About the role

ANZ is seeking a Senior Lawyer to provide legal support to its Institutional Division’s relationship banking businesses. The role will primarily serve the Corporate Banking team while also assisting Diversified Industries, Growth, Property and Health units as needed.

Key responsibilities

• Draft, amend and negotiate facility documents, securities, guarantees and related agreements.
• Advise internal stakeholders on ANZ’s rights and obligations under loan documentation and other contracts.
• Provide high‑quality, strategic legal advice on regulatory and commercial risks arising from transactions.
• Instruct and manage external counsel to ensure cost‑effective, high‑standard legal services.
• Support internal projects that drive the business’s strategic objectives.
• Deliver training and keep business units informed of significant legal developments.
• Collaborate with credit, risk, compliance and enablement teams to ensure consistent risk management.
• Guide and mentor junior members of the legal team.

Required profile

• Current Australian legal practising certificate.
• Extensive post‑qualification experience, preferably from a top‑tier Australian or equivalent foreign law firm with a focus on banking law.
• Demonstrated ability to provide commercial‑oriented legal solutions in a fast‑moving environment.
