Senior Hydraulic Engineer

About the role

The Senior Hydraulic Engineer will lead flood modelling and hydraulic analysis for the Gold Coast, supporting the city’s resilience to flooding and informing land‑use planning and infrastructure projects.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modelling studies across the city’s catchments and river systems.
• Operate the Flood Emergency Decision Support System (FEDSS) during severe weather events.
• Develop flood planning policies and improve modelling methodologies and data.
• Perform GIS analyses, process modelling results, and produce flood study reports.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to deliver timely technical responses.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years of experience in flood modelling and hydraulic engineering.
• Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering.
• Ability to communicate technical flood information to professionals and the public.

Required skills

• Experience with URBS and TUFLOW hydraulic modelling software.
• Programming/coding skills in Python.
• Proficiency in ArcGIS Pro and QGIS.
