Senior Finance Manager - Global Specialty Insurer

About the role

A global property, casualty and specialty insurer that has grown its Australian premium base tenfold is building an on-the-ground finance function and hiring its first dedicated local hire, the Senior Finance Manager (internally designated Assistant Vice President, Finance). Reporting to the Regional AVP for BAU Reporting and working closely with the Head of APAC Finance, you will be the principal finance lead for the Australian platform, supported by central analysts and external tax advisors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the operational repatriation of core accounting processes and deliver AASB 17 statutory financial statements, US GAAP reporting and year-end audit deliverables.
• Own the regulatory reporting calendar and prepare, reconcile and submit APRA returns, engaging on new APRA standards.
• Partner with Underwriting Heads and Actuaries to produce management packs, evaluate loss ratios and challenge product line performance.
• Design and embed a local control framework, including governance structures and delegated authorities.
• Support regional finance leaders on systems enhancements and coordinate with external advisors on corporate income tax, stamp duty, ESL, GST and ARPC obligations.
• Lay the foundation for the Australian finance desk and help build and mentor a local team.

Required profile

• Unrestricted, permanent working rights in Australia (Australian citizen or permanent resident).
• Qualified with a recognised professional accounting body (CA, CPA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CGMA, CMA, ICAI or equivalent) and a relevant tertiary degree.
• Strong technical finance background in Australian general insurance, reinsurance or specialist underwriting.
• Proven knowledge of APRA returns and Australian statutory reporting, with direct exposure to AASB 17 and US GAAP.
• Comfortable owning technical deliverables from scratch and leading a team as the business scales.
• Track record of partnering with underwriters, pricing actuaries or commercial leaders to assess portfolio performance.
