Senior Engineer - Platform (Infrastructure)

About the role

Xero's Infrastructure team builds the platform foundations that engineers rely on every day. As a Senior Engineer, you will help Xero engineers build and test software faster and with more confidence by designing and building systems that create test environments and ensuring test data is ready when teams need it. The role works across complex platforms, including older legacy systems alongside modern technology, and is open to candidates who want to go bold and fast.

Key responsibilities

• Build support systems and tooling for test environments so engineers can test changes without waiting on blockers.
• Improve test data and enable frictionless testing across engineering teams.
• Work with Golang services alongside infrastructure built with Terraform on AWS, including Kubernetes, EC2 and Lambda.
• Contribute to a longer-running initiative to shorten feedback loops and increase engineering productivity.

Required profile

• Background in software engineering that has moved into platform or DevOps, or in infrastructure work that understands how software is built.
• Curious, problem-solving mindset and the ability to pick up unfamiliar systems quickly, including legacy ones.
• Clear communication, whether working in another team's codebase or presenting to leadership.

Required skills

• Golang is preferred; strong experience in Java or .NET is also welcome.
• Hands-on experience with Terraform, AWS and Kubernetes is helpful.
