Senior Design Engineer, Geotechnical

About the role

ACCIONA is seeking a Senior Design Engineer, Geotechnical to join its Australian team. Based in Sydney, you will lead the delivery of innovative, cost‑effective geotechnical solutions for major infrastructure projects, ensuring technical excellence and compliance with industry standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and analysis of geotechnical structures such as deep and shallow foundations, retaining walls, RSS walls and slope stability solutions.
• Perform advanced geotechnical modelling for road and rail projects, including cut/fill optimisation, batter stability and anchoring systems.
• Develop safe temporary works designs (platforms, retaining systems, excavations) in line with relevant codes.
• Plan and oversee site investigations – borehole drilling, in‑situ testing (SPT, CPT, pressuremeter), sampling and monitoring.
• Prepare and review Geotechnical Design Reports, Ground Investigation Reports and Geotechnical Factual Reports.
• Assess geotechnical risks and implement mitigation strategies.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor junior engineers and drive continuous improvement.

Required profile

• Minimum 8 years of geotechnical design experience in consultancy or construction.
• Degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering (post‑graduate qualification preferred).
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
