Senior Databricks Engineer

About the role

Synogize is looking for a Senior Databricks Consultant in Melbourne to lead Databricks projects and guide its team of consultants. The role helps build assets and resources, raises Databricks knowledge within the team and works with sales and marketing, technology partners and clients to strengthen the company's position as a Databricks solutions leader.

Key responsibilities

• Act as a subject matter expert in Databricks and related technologies
• Advise on lakehouse design patterns (including medallion architecture), delivery methodologies and tooling
• Ensure delivery quality across Databricks data platform, data engineering and AI/ML projects
• Implement security, governance and compliance on Databricks using Unity Catalog
• Capture and promote client success stories and case studies
• Work with Databricks and other partners on solution design and delivery, and support pre-sales engagements
• Contribute to training and certification pathways, and help develop opportunities with existing clients
• Share Databricks thought leadership through published content and events

Required profile

• Proven experience delivering Databricks platforms and solutions, including leading small teams or workstreams
• Experience leading migrations from legacy platforms (SQL Server, Synapse, Hadoop, SAS) to Databricks
• Experience optimising Databricks cost and performance, and integrating with tools such as dbt, Fivetran, Power BI or Tableau
• Strong mentoring, client engagement and pre-sales skills, and a track record of delivering data solutions with measurable business impact
• Databricks certifications, or willingness to obtain them

• Databricks, Apache Spark (PySpark and Spark SQL), Delta Lake and cloud data architecture (AWS/Azure/GCP)
• Lakeflow (Connect, Pipelines, Jobs), Databricks SQL and Unity Catalog
• Agile, DevOps/CI-CD (including Databricks Asset Bundles)
• Machine learning and AI on Databricks (MLflow, Mosaic AI, Genie, Agent Bricks) is highly regarded
