Senior Data Engineer

About the role

ST Vic is recruiting a Senior Data Engineer (VPS 6) in Melbourne, reporting to the Senior Manager, Data Platform. The role is responsible for developing, maintaining and improving the Data Platform and its related cloud environment, leading the engineering integrity of the ST Vic data platform so that data solutions are fit for purpose and support the Data Strategy. It is a full-time fixed-term position of 12 months.

Key responsibilities

• Develop organisational capability by applying knowledge of external factors such as demographic trends, skills shortages and future workforce requirements.
• Lead and navigate change by identifying long-term organisational changes.
• Keep up to date with operational requirements and formulate strategies that align organisational deliverables with community expectations.
• Drive a culture of quality by design, embedding quality practices in service and solution delivery.
• Use credentials in data science, mathematics, actuarial science, statistics or related fields, with experience in high-volume, high-impact data literacy environments.
• Develop and maintain data architectures, including databases and large-scale processing systems, and improve production reliability and data quality.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Statistics, Engineering, Maths, Computer Science, Finance, Marketing, Economics or another relevant quantitative discipline.
• Strong working experience in a data engineering capability.
• Thought leadership and involvement in building organisational capability in data literacy.
• Deep expertise in complex data models or algorithms and advanced statistical techniques; subject matter expert in this field.
• Willingness to work outside the ordinary place of residence, including at ST Vic workplaces.
