Senior Consultant – Engagement Independence, Ethics & Independence

About the role

The Senior Consultant will support KPMG's Ethics & Independence team by ensuring compliance with independence rules and providing expert guidance on independence matters for audit engagements across Australia, Papua New Guinea and Fiji. The role also involves building capability within the team through training and technical advice.

Key responsibilities

• Manage Ethics & Independence systems, processes and procedures to maintain operational effectiveness and compliance.
• Perform independence clearance for prospective audit clients, reviewing non‑assurance services and guiding audit teams through clearance systems.
• Assess permissibility of non‑assurance services for PIE and non‑PIE clients and prepare independence memoranda.
• Evaluate new service offerings, develop supporting documentation and provide guidance on routine business‑relationship queries.
• Drive continuous‑improvement initiatives, design efficient processes and manage competing priorities under pressure.
• Formulate defensible positions on complex matters and collaborate with partners and risk‑management teams.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in audit, risk consulting or risk management within a Big 4 or mid‑tier professional services firm.
• Strong knowledge of auditor independence rules (IESBA); familiarity with SEC, PCAOB, APES 110 and the Corporations Act 2001 is advantageous.
• Relevant tertiary qualifications such as a degree in Law or Accounting, and/or professional accreditation (CA or CPA).
• Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation abilities.
