Senior Cafe Assistant

About the role

The Department for Environment and Water is recruiting a Senior Cafe Assistant for the Granite Island Cafe in Victor Harbor on a short-term part-time contract (up to 23 March 2027, 23.94 hours per week). The role supports the Cafe Manager and Assistant Cafe Manager with administrative and operational tasks and helps deliver quality service, visitor information and expert advice to public enquiries.

Key responsibilities

• Support the Cafe Manager and Assistant Cafe Manager with administrative and operational tasks
• Ensure products and services are delivered to the highest standards
• Provide quality service, visitor information and expert advice to public enquiries
• Support team members and assist with stock ordering, upkeep of retail or cafe areas, cash handling and processing, database maintenance and record keeping
• Prepare a variety of coffees and beverages

Required profile

• Experience in commercial retail or cafe operations
• Experience maintaining and displaying retail products in a commercial setting
• Ability to work in a busy retail/cafe environment and provide high-level customer service
• Sound judgement, teamwork and ability to guide other team members
• Ability to meet and achieve financial obligations
• Good understanding of tourism and retail principles
• Australian citizenship, permanent residency or a valid working visa; a valid Working with Children Check (renewable every five years, cost covered by the employer)
• Willingness to wear a company uniform, work weekends and public holidays, and possibly work outside normal hours

Required skills

• Knowledge of point-of-sale systems
• Coffee and beverage preparation
