Senior Associate / Special Counsel – Public Law

About the role

Hall & Wilcox is seeking a Senior Associate or Special Counsel to join its Dispute Resolution – Public Law team in Canberra, working alongside a highly regarded Partner. The role focuses on public law litigation, administrative law, privacy and freedom of information matters for Commonwealth government clients.

Key responsibilities

• Handle public law matters across agriculture, environment, health, aged care, citizenship, migration, code of conduct compliance, compensation, privacy, data protection and FOI.
• Conduct merits and judicial review proceedings, draft legal documents, and manage busy workloads with competing timelines.

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years post‑admission experience in public sector or Commonwealth government matters.
• Strong legal drafting, analytical, verbal and written communication skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, and to run matters independently.
