Senior Associate – Public Law – Complex Liabilities, Insurance & Regulation

About the role

MinterEllison is seeking an experienced Senior Associate to join its leading Public Law team in Sydney. You will work closely with partners and special counsel on high‑profile government litigation, handling both merits review and judicial review matters for Commonwealth clients.

Key responsibilities

• Manage a broad caseload of merits and judicial review litigation for government agencies.
• Appear as a solicitor‑advocate at hearings, conferences and appeals.
• Provide strategic advice on administrative law, statutory interpretation and litigation strategy.
• Instruct counsel on complex, high‑profile matters and maintain strong client relationships.
• Supervise and mentor junior lawyers while contributing to business development initiatives.

Required profile

• 5+ years post‑qualification experience in public and administrative law or government litigation.
• Proven experience acting for Commonwealth agencies in merits and/or judicial review proceedings.
• Strong advocacy, drafting and technical legal abilities.
• Ability to manage matters autonomously and deliver client‑focused advice.
• Excellent organisational skills, collaborative mindset and a commitment to mentoring junior staff.
