Senior Architect

About the role

Watson Young is seeking a Senior Architect to lead design projects in Sydney. This senior design position will guide projects from concept through completion, championing design excellence and fostering a collaborative environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the design of commercial, education and industrial projects, steering design reviews at critical stages.
• Manage project delivery, including scope, timelines, resources and coordination with consultants.
• Conduct document reviews to ensure internal quality standards before issue.
• Identify and mitigate risks, negotiate fee variations and report progress to stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships and facilitate open dialogue with consultants.
• Mentor and develop project team members, sharing expertise and supporting growth.
• Support business development by assisting senior staff in identifying new opportunities.
• Lead project debriefs and learning sessions to capture insights.

Required profile

• Registered Architect with senior‑level experience delivering complex projects from concept to completion.
• Background in commercial, education and/or industrial sectors.
• Strong technical knowledge of the NCC, building codes and standards, and contract administration.
• Proven leadership and mentorship abilities.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Commercial acumen with the ability to manage scope, timelines, resources and risk across multiple projects.
• Highly organised, proactive and adaptable with a growth mindset.
