Senior Accountant - Financial

About the role

We are looking for a highly skilled Senior Accountant to join the Financial Control team of the NSW Department of Customer Service. Based in Sydney CBD with hybrid working options, you will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of financial reporting and compliance with accounting standards.

Key responsibilities

• Manage general ledger reconciliations and coordinate month‑end and year‑end close processes.
• Prepare and deliver regular financial reports, reconciliations and statutory returns.
• Provide financial advice, training and operational support to internal stakeholders.
• Develop business cases, briefing papers and other management submissions.
• Analyse financial data and processes to identify trends and drive continuous improvement.
• Support external and internal audit activities, preparing documentation and liaising with auditors.
• Collaborate on finance system implementations, integrations, upgrades and reporting enhancements.
• Mentor and coach junior team members.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline.
• Relevant professional membership (e.g., CPA, CA).
• Proven experience in financial accounting, reporting and audit support.
• Strong understanding of legislative and reporting requirements.
