Seasonal Deckhand – Exmouth Dive & Whalesharks

About the role

Exmouth Dive & Whalesharks Ningaloo, an experiential tourism business based on the Ningaloo Reef in Exmouth, Western Australia, is looking for a seasonal Deckhand for 2026. It is a guest-facing position on a marine vessel, requiring professionalism, enthusiasm and a commitment to safety and service. The business operates from February/March to October/November.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Skipper in operating and navigating the vessel safely and in line with marine standards and regulations
• Communicate clearly between the Skipper and the deck crew, especially during whale shark operations
• Help with tender operations, guest transfers, vessel refuelling and support vessel departure and docking
• Assist guests with boarding, briefings and in-water preparations, manage guest flow and conduct headcounts while guests are in the water
• Share information about wildlife and the environment and help guests stay comfortable
• Help serve meals and refreshments and keep the atmosphere welcoming and professional
• Take part in daily vessel preparation, cleaning and pack-down, including restocking, waste management and refuelling
• Help with basic maintenance and report mechanical or operational issues promptly
• Help train and mentor crew as needed and promote a strong safety culture by reporting hazards and incidents

Required profile

• Prior experience as a Deckhand in marine operations, or guest-facing adventure activities in marine tourism, whale shark or diving environments, highly desirable
• Current First Aid and CPR certificate
• Confident with public speaking, able to handle physical tasks such as handling lines and emergency response including in-water rescues

Required skills

• Dive Master certification desirable
• WA Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA) certificate, currently held or willing to obtain
• Exmouth Shire Food Handling certificate, currently held or willing to obtain
• An AMSA marine qualification such as STCW, CoST or GPH considered desirable
