Research Engineer

About the role

We are seeking a Research Engineer to join our partner’s team in Australia. The role bridges research and engineering, turning conceptual models into working prototypes and experimental frameworks that can be tested, validated, and iterated under real‑world constraints.

Key responsibilities

• Design and build experimental research prototypes and sandbox environments that enable rapid validation of new approaches.
• Develop evaluation frameworks and benchmarking tools to assess decision systems and ensure consistent, rigorous measurement of research outputs.
• Implement experimental architectures and pipelines supporting iterative testing, A/B experimentation, and structured model comparisons.
• Maintain and evolve research infrastructure to guarantee reproducibility, stability, and scalability across teams.
• Collaborate closely with research scientists to translate theoretical models into runnable systems and provide early technical feedback.
• Identify engineering limitations early and help refine research directions based on technical feasibility.

Required profile

• Strong software engineering fundamentals with experience building modular, reliable, and maintainable systems.
• Background in experimental, prototype‑driven, or research‑adjacent projects, preferably in AI, analytics, or advanced technical environments.
• Comfort working in ambiguous, research‑oriented settings where requirements evolve rapidly.
• Familiarity with AI pipelines, decision systems, or data‑driven architectures and an understanding of how to structure them for evaluation.
• Ability to balance speed and rigor, delivering functional prototypes quickly while preserving clarity and reproducibility.
• Clear communication and effective collaboration with both researchers and engineers.
