Registered Nurse – Peri‑Operative (Circulating/Instrument)

About the role

Join the Peri‑Operative team at Cessnock District Hospital as a Registered Nurse working across circulating and instrument (scrub/scout) roles. You will provide safe, high‑quality care throughout the surgical journey, collaborating closely with surgeons, anaesthetists and the wider multidisciplinary team.

Key responsibilities

• Provide nursing care throughout the peri‑operative journey, ensuring patient safety and dignity.
• Prepare and maintain the operating theatre, equipment and instrumentation for each procedure.
• Collaborate with the multidisciplinary peri‑operative team to support efficient theatre operations.
• Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and respond confidently to changing clinical situations.
• Maintain strict infection‑prevention, aseptic technique and patient‑safety standards.
• Complete surgical counts and documentation accurately.

Required profile

• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA.
• Demonstrated Scrub/Scout experience in a peri‑operative setting.
• Strong clinical judgement and ability to prioritise in a fast‑paced environment.
• Excellent communication, teamwork and problem‑solving skills.
• Compassionate, patient‑focused approach and commitment to ongoing professional development.

Required skills

• Scrub/Scout (circulating and instrument) experience.
• Knowledge of infection prevention, aseptic technique and patient safety standards.
