Registered Nurse – Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD)

About the role

Join a multidisciplinary team at the Melbourne Immigration Detention Centre as an AOD Registered Nurse, providing person‑centred care to individuals with substance use challenges. This full‑time, onsite position offers a supportive environment with professional development and a $4,000 sign‑on bonus.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct comprehensive assessments and develop individualised care plans for clients with drug and alcohol needs.
• Manage medication, including detoxification and withdrawal support, and deliver education on harm reduction and relapse prevention.
• Support the OOAT Pharmacotherapy Program and collaborate with mental health, primary health, and other multidisciplinary team members.
• Liaise with external services for continuity of care, contribute to clinical audits, and drive service improvement.

Required profile

• Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1).
• Either a postgraduate qualification in AOD/Mental Health plus 5+ years specialist AOD experience, or 7+ years specialist AOD nursing experience.
• Strong clinical judgement, compassionate non‑judgemental approach, and excellent communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a high‑security or complex environment and a commitment to ongoing professional development.
