Psychiatrist (Part‑time, Sydney Immigration Detention Centre)

About the role

The Psychiatrist will work one day per week onsite at the Sydney Immigration Detention Centre in Villawood, providing comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnoses and treatment plans for detainees.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct thorough psychiatric evaluations and develop individualized treatment plans.
• Collaborate with medical, nursing and allied health teams to ensure coordinated, patient‑centred care.
• Provide clinical advice and support to the multidisciplinary team on managing psychiatric conditions.
• Participate in education, training and quality‑improvement initiatives to enhance mental‑health services.

Required profile

• Experience in complex clinical environments, preferably forensic, custodial or immigration health settings.
• Ability to work with culturally diverse and trauma‑affected populations.
• Strong teamwork skills and motivation to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes.
