Project Manager – Civil Construction

About the role

You will own a portfolio of Melbourne civil projects from award through to handover, leading supervisors and field crews while acting as the main point of contact for the client.

Key responsibilities

• Plan, programme and resource works in tight urban environments, coordinating crews, plant and subcontractors.
• Secure and manage council, Department of Transport, planning and utility permits, including traffic management and night/out‑of‑hours works.
• Manage budgets, cost reporting, forecasting and monthly progress claims.
• Administer contracts, handling variations, delays, notices and claim substantiation.
• Lead site safety, overseeing SWMS, permits, excavation controls and work near live electrical assets.
• Engage with stakeholders, residents, businesses and councils to maintain community relations.
• Review quality documentation, ITPs and as‑constructed records.
• Oversee subcontractor procurement, performance monitoring and payments.

Required profile

• Based in Melbourne’s western suburbs or within easy reach.
• 5+ years’ project management experience in civil construction, preferably underground utilities or electrical distribution.
• Proven delivery in inner‑metropolitan Melbourne with strong knowledge of council and road authority permit processes.
• Solid grounding in contract administration and commercial management.
• Strong safety leadership and familiarity with the OHS Act 2004 (Vic).
• Clear communication with clients, crews, councils and the public.
• Current Victorian driver licence and Construction Induction Card (White Card).

Required skills

• Proficiency with programming tools such as MS Project or similar.
• Competent use of Microsoft 365 suite.
