Project Architect / Design Lead

About the role

Y Projects is seeking a Project Architect / Design Lead to own the full design process for contemporary extensions on heritage homes in Melbourne. You will guide projects from the initial client conversation through to detailed documentation and interior design, working closely with a dedicated construction team.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design end‑to‑end: brief, concept, planning, design development, interiors and documentation.
• Act as the primary client contact during the design phase, building trust and rapport.
• Produce resolved construction documents using SketchUp and Revit.
• Create presentation renders with D5, Enscape or Lumion.
• Collaborate with the build team to ensure projects stay on budget and meet the brief.
• Contribute to the growth of the design side of the business.

Required profile

• 7+ years of residential design experience, preferably with extensions.
• Strong contemporary design sensibility and a clear personal style.
• Solid understanding of ResCode, town planning, NCC Volume 2 and relevant Australian Standards.
• Self‑motivated, organised, warm, and comfortable engaging with clients.
