Process Technician – Mechanical (Melbourne)

About the role

Join Moderna’s new GMP manufacturing facility in Clayton, Melbourne as a Process Technician – Mechanical. You will be the first‑line responder for equipment issues, performing preventive and corrective maintenance on both GMP and non‑GMP process and support equipment in a 24/7 environment.

Key responsibilities

• Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on a range of mechanical equipment, including autoclaves, washers, isolators, TFF, chromatography skids, filling lines, mixers and stainless‑steel tanks.
• Lead troubleshooting of equipment malfunctions, identify root causes and develop remediation strategies with equipment owners and vendors.
• Maintain cGMP‑compliant documentation for all maintenance activities, both paper‑based and electronic.
• Supervise external contractors, ensuring compliance with GMP and site safety protocols.
• Provide on‑call support on a rotating basis and participate in small‑scale projects and continuous‑improvement initiatives.

Required profile

• Trade qualification (Certificate 3) or a Bachelor of Engineering (Mechanical/Mechatronics) with relevant hands‑on experience.
• 3–5 years of experience in a regulated (cGMP preferred) environment, preferably sterile manufacturing.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to present technical information to cross‑functional teams.
• Customer‑service mindset and ability to manage competing priorities.

Required skills

• Hands‑on mechanical experience with drives, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, mixing vessels and related process equipment.
• Understanding of PLC controls for basic troubleshooting.
• Experience with pneumatic and vacuum systems.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of EHS procedures including LOTO, hot‑work permits and working at heights.
