Principal Structural Engineer – Mining & Industrial Projects

About the role

AECOM is seeking a Principal Structural Engineer with over 15 years of experience to lead structural design for mining and industrial projects. The role involves senior‑level technical leadership, client liaison, and delivery of safe, efficient solutions from concept through construction.

Key responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and guidance to multidisciplinary design teams, ensuring best practice and project standards.
• Lead structural design from concept development to detailed design and construction, advising clients on material selection and system integration.
• Perform quality control reviews of calculations and drawings, and prepare technical specifications.
• Mentor engineers and designers, fostering technical excellence and professional growth.
• Oversee drawings and specifications to ensure compliance with standards, project requirements, and quality processes.
• Collaborate in multidisciplinary teams, resolve technical interfaces, and integrate structural solutions with other engineering disciplines.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Engineering with 15+ years delivering complex structural projects in mining or industrial sectors.
• Current Chartered Professional Engineer (CPEng) accreditation and Membership of Engineers Australia (MIEAust).
• Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland (RPEQ) status.
• Proven experience leading projects through all design and construction phases.
• Strong commercial awareness and track record of delivering on time and within budget.

Required skills

• Advanced proficiency in SpaceGass and Strand7; experience with IDEA StatiCa is highly regarded.
• Design and assessment of concrete and steel structures.
• Technical mentoring and guidance for junior engineers.
• Excellent written and verbal communication with internal and external stakeholders.
