Principal Engineer - Secrets Management

About the role

As a Principal Engineer you will lead Westpac’s enterprise secrets management strategy, designing and delivering secure, scalable solutions that protect critical credentials across on‑premises, cloud and DevOps environments.

Key responsibilities

• Define technical direction for enterprise secrets services such as Vault, machine identities, service accounts, certificates, keys and API secrets.
• Own the evolution and adoption of Vault across AWS, Azure, Kubernetes, OpenShift and CI/CD pipelines.
• Drive automation, resilience and observability while embedding secure‑by‑default patterns.
• Partner with Identity, Privileged Access, Cloud and Platform Engineering teams to align with regulatory and security objectives.

Required profile

• Deep expertise in Vault, Secrets Management, PAM and IAM.
• Proven experience delivering enterprise‑scale secrets management programs in large, complex environments.
• Strong hands‑on security engineering experience across infrastructure, cloud and DevSecOps.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and ability to lead large‑scale transformation initiatives.
