Principal Engineer - Primary Design (HV Substations)

About the role

CPP, a high-voltage infrastructure provider and member of Quanta Services, is hiring a Principal Primary Engineer to deliver high-voltage substation projects that support Australia's renewable energy and utility sectors. The engineer contributes to complex, large-scale infrastructure projects, producing detailed primary electrical designs from concept through to construction support, while mentoring junior engineers.

Key responsibilities

• Produce detailed engineering studies in at least one area: system studies (load flow, short circuit, arc flash, low voltage protection coordination), earthing, EMF and LFI designs, insulation coordination, or high voltage cable sizing.
• Mentor and support upcoming engineers while staying involved in technical engineering skills and project studies.
• Work with construction and operations teams so designs are practical and constructible.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience in a similar role in the HV electrical industry.
• Expertise in substation design.
• Hands-on experience in Arc Flash, Insulation Coordination Studies or Earthing.
• Power system study experience (not reviewing) including lightning, lighting, short circuit and load flow.
