Principal Engineer

About the role

LGT Wealth Management is seeking a Principal Engineer to set technical direction and strengthen software design, building, and operations across its Australian wealth platform. Reporting to the CTO, you will be the senior technical authority, working hands‑on to deliver secure, resilient, and maintainable systems.

Key responsibilities

• Define and evolve engineering standards, practices, and architecture in line with enterprise and LGT Group guidelines.
• Lead design of complex services, making decisions on APIs, data models, integrations, performance, and scalability, and document them.
• Write production‑quality code, build prototypes, and tackle the highest‑risk technical work.
• Develop reference architectures, service templates, shared libraries, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure‑as‑code modules.
• Raise engineering quality through code reviews, automated testing, static analysis, and clear definitions of done.

Required profile

• 12+ years of software engineering experience with proven ability to set technical direction across multiple teams.
• Deep expertise in at least one modern language (C#/.NET, Java, TypeScript, or Python) and strong distributed‑systems design skills.
• Hands‑on cloud‑native experience on Azure and/or AWS, including containers, serverless, and IaC.
• Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, observability, incident management, and secure‑by‑design practices.
• Ability to mentor engineers, influence without direct authority, and communicate technical trade‑offs to stakeholders.
