People and Culture Generalist

About the role

St John Ambulance NSW is looking for a People and Culture Generalist to join its Macquarie Park office. The role gives advice and support to managers and staff on people and culture matters, ensures people processes are accurate, compliant and timely, and strengthens engagement and capability. It also focuses on implementing and administering a new HRIS, acting as the HRIS Super User. The position is full-time, permanent, based in Macquarie Park with one day of work from home.

Key responsibilities

• Provide accurate, timely people and culture advice to managers and staff
• Prepare staff documentation such as staff movements and remuneration changes, and coordinate maternity, parental and extended leave
• Prepare statutory documents (jury duty, leave confirmations) and support policy review cycles
• Maintain employment templates and People & Culture intranet content
• Support HRIS implementation, including system testing, data migration and staff training, and act as HRIS Super User and system administrator
• Maintain staff master data and configure workflows, approval hierarchies and permissions
• Track policy acknowledgements and regulatory compliance (e.g. AHPRA, visa compliance, probation periods)
• Generate People & Culture dashboards, board-level reports and monthly workforce metrics, and complete annual WGEA reporting
• Provide backup support to the People & Culture team and help improve processes

Required profile

• Experience in a generalist HR role
• Understanding of Australian employment legislation
• Proactive, high-energy HR professional with strong written communication skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities
