Payroll Officer

About the role

A sugar manufacturer, one of Australia's largest producers of raw sugar, operates multiple mills in the Mackay region and also produces molasses and renewable energy. Its client is recruiting a Payroll Officer through Hays to manage end-to-end payroll for a workforce of up to 800 employees. This is a minimum 3-month contract at $60 per hour casual, 40 hours per week, with flexible start and finish times.

Key responsibilities

• Process employee pay, allowances, deductions, leave and other payroll transactions
• Manage payroll data across Kronos, UKG and SAP systems
• Review and validate timesheets and payroll information before processing
• Complete payroll reconciliations so employees are paid accurately and on time
• Investigate and resolve payroll discrepancies and employee enquiries
• Maintain accurate employee and payroll records with confidentiality and compliance
• Work to strict payroll deadlines, with pay cycles starting Monday for Wednesday payment

Required profile

• Extensive end-to-end payroll experience, ideally in a large or high-volume workforce
• Demonstrated experience processing payroll for several hundred employees
• Strong understanding of payroll processes, reconciliations and compliance requirements
• Attention to detail, accuracy and ability to work under strict deadlines
• Problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to start at short notice and adapt quickly to established processes

Required skills

• SAP is essential
• Kronos and/or UKG experience highly desirable
