Payroll Manager (Temporary Contract)

About the role

A small to medium-sized professional services business in the inner suburbs of Melbourne is looking for a Payroll Manager for a 3-4 month contract, reporting to the Finance Manager and owning the payroll function end to end. There is an opportunity to move to a permanent position. The role manages two separate payrolls covering about 300 employees.

Key responsibilities

• Own the full payroll cycle, ensuring accurate and timely processing of superannuation, PAYG, payroll tax, annual leave, long service leave and payroll reconciliations
• Prepare payroll journals, accruals and reporting for the wider finance team
• Act as subject matter expert on payroll, ensuring compliance with the Fair Work Act, relevant awards and other payroll legislation, and interpret awards and employment conditions
• Investigate and resolve payroll queries and give clear advice to internal stakeholders
• Oversee the Astute payroll system, keeping employee data accurate and fixing system or process issues
• Ensure payroll information reconciles accurately to Power BI and wider finance reporting
• Review and improve payroll processes

Required profile

• Minimum 5 years' experience managing payroll
• Immediate availability; ideal start date 19 October

Required skills

• Experience with the Astute payroll system (desirable)
• Strong Excel skills (desirable)
• Understanding of awards
