Payments Reconciliation Officer

About the role

Alchemy Recruitment is partnering with a local government client to recruit a Payments Reconciliation Officer for its Financial Control team in Fortitude Valley. This is a short-term, 5-week contract running from Monday 2 November to Friday 4 December 2026, working 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm.

Key responsibilities

• Process customer payments from multiple channels into the receipting system
• Prepare payments for bank submission and entry into financial systems
• Prepare cash and payment reconciliations and reports
• Investigate customer payment queries and unmatched transactions
• Prepare customer refunds
• Support financial controls and escalate issues as needed
• Provide first-line support to system users and contribute to process improvements

Required profile

• 1 to 3+ years' experience in receipting, cash or bank reconciliation, accounts receivable or a similar transactional finance role
• Experience in a high-volume processing environment
• Strong attention to detail and ability to work unsupervised
• Clear written and verbal communication with internal and external customers
• Ability to pick up new systems quickly
• Available to start on 2 November

Required skills

• Strong Excel skills
• Preferred: Year 12 or relevant certificate
• Preferred: Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping or similar
• Preferred: experience with an ERP system such as SAP
