Senior Bookkeeper

About the role

LINK Books, a Xero Platinum Partner and registered BAS agent serving small businesses since 2012, is hiring a senior bookkeeper in Fortitude Valley, Queensland. The firm works on a fixed monthly fee per client, with one dedicated bookkeeper per client who keeps the file every month and explains the month-end to the owner. The senior bookkeeper holds a portfolio of clients outright, covering coding, reconciliations, payroll, BAS and IAS lodgement.

Key responsibilities

• Own a portfolio of small-business clients as their named bookkeeper and first point of contact
• Run the monthly rhythm: bank feeds and coding, reconciliations, and a month-end closed on time with a clear summary for the owner
• Process payroll end to end, including STP, superannuation, award interpretation, terminations and year-end finalisation
• Prepare and lodge BAS and IAS, checking the coding behind the GST figure before lodging
• Lead Xero setups and conversions from MYOB, QuickBooks, Reckon or spreadsheets, and reconcile the first month with the client watching
• Clear catch-up and backlog jobs and rebuild the process so it does not return
• Train clients on their own file, one on one or with their team, in the office or over Zoom
• Support and check the work of less experienced bookkeepers
• Spot when a client needs an accountant, broker or adviser and introduce them to the LINK team

Required profile

• Experience in a bookkeeping practice or accounting firm, running client files rather than one in-house ledger
• Confident as a client's main point of contact and able to explain numbers in plain English

Required skills

• Strong Xero, including Xero Payroll, and comfort with the surrounding apps
• Payroll across STP, superannuation and award interpretation
