Medical Officer – Office of Chief Medical Officer

About the role

The Office of the Chief Medical Officer (OoCMO) within the Australian Federal Police seeks a Medical Officer to provide clinical expertise, occupational health guidance, and strategic health leadership. You will work closely with the Chief Medical Officer, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, and the SHIELD program to protect and promote a healthy, resilient workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Assess clinical information and issue health‑risk recommendations for fitness‑for‑work, pre‑employment courses, and overseas deployment.
• Support the development and implementation of health and wellbeing strategies, clinical governance frameworks, and evidence‑based policies.
• Collaborate with AFP Commands, managers, and appointees on sickness, absence, rehabilitation, and health‑related queries.
• Provide technical health advice to the OoCMO, SHIELD, and other AFP stakeholders.
• Contribute to health threat analysis, operational health planning, and data‑informed decision‑making.

Required profile

• Medical qualification with experience in occupational health or public health.
• Understanding of AFP operational hazards, risks, and the unique health needs of sworn and unsworn personnel.
• Ability to interpret clinical data and communicate risk assessments clearly.
• Experience working in a government or defence‑related environment is desirable.
