Medical Officer – Life Insurance (No rosters, $180-200k)

About the role

This position is designed for PGY3+ doctors or GP Registrars who want to move away from bedside duties and on‑call rosters. You will work in a life‑insurance environment, applying your clinical expertise to assess medical information on claims and applications.

Key responsibilities

• Review and evaluate medical data attached to insurance claims and new applications.
• Provide clear, evidence‑based recommendations to underwriting and claims teams.
• Coach and mentor underwriting staff on medical aspects of risk assessment.
• Influence and help shape the decision‑making framework for policy approvals.
• Collaborate with colleagues in a hybrid work setting across Sydney and Melbourne.

Required profile

• Strong clinical reasoning and the ability to interpret complex medical information.
• Excellent communication skills to explain medical concepts to non‑clinical audiences.
• Interest in how systems and processes operate within the insurance sector.
• Willingness to work without night shifts, rosters, or on‑call duties.
