Mechanical Engineer – Building Services

About the role

Mott MacDonald is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join its Buildings Services team in Sydney. You will work on large‑scale infrastructure projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams and supporting design, construction, and digital delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with team members, attend meetings and deliver technical presentations.
• Perform non‑routine, complex assignments with limited guidance, producing calculations, sketches and reports.
• Support construction services, including sequencing, inspections and responding to RFIs.
• Implement and promote digital design and BIM modelling throughout project delivery.
• Manage multiple tasks in an organised manner while adhering to budgets and timelines.
• Contribute to recruitment, workforce planning and capability development initiatives.
• Deliver proposals, fee estimates and technical inputs for bids.
• Promote innovation, sustainability and digital engineering practices.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer status (CPEng) or a clear pathway towards chartership preferred.
• Experience in mechanical building services design within a consulting environment.
• Proven delivery of complex projects in sectors such as aviation, health, education, commercial or major infrastructure buildings.
• Strong understanding of NCC, Australian Standards, energy efficiency, smoke control and ventilation design principles.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Revit/BIM‑enabled design delivery.
• Experience using mechanical engineering analysis tools.
• Advanced skills in common software and applications for analysis and design.
