Marine Vessel Engineer (MED 1) - Rottnest Express

About the role

Rottnest Express, part of the Journey Beyond Group, is looking for a Marine Vessel Engineer (minimum MED 1 qualification) to join its team on a full-time basis working a lifestyle roster, with casual opportunities also available. The engineer maintains the safe mechanical operation of the vessels through relevant procedures, ensuring all repairs are carried out safely and efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Perform daily engine and machinery checks on assigned vessels
• Assist the Master with the safe management and operation of the vessel in line with policies and procedures
• Diagnose system problems as they arise
• Record all maintenance requirements and their implications
• Coordinate and maintain vessel preventative maintenance programs
• Maintain logs and work orders through to completion and sign them off
• Assist with securing vessels at marinas and island jetties
• Take part in safety drills as required by the Master
• Help with guest experience duties such as meeting and greeting guests

Required profile

• Experienced marine engineer with a minimum MED 1 qualification (preferably in the marine tourism industry)
• Flexibility to work varied hours, including weekends and public holidays
• Currently residing in Australia with full legal working rights

Required skills

• High-level knowledge of marine engines and systems
• Experience conducting risk assessments and introducing practical safety measures
• Experience with high-speed vessels
• Strong organisational, time-management, communication and problem-solving skills
• Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
