Manager Planning & Community Development

About the role

West Coast Council is recruiting a Manager Planning & Community Development (Band 7) within its Community & Corporate Services division. Reporting to the Director Community & Corporate Services, the manager leads a diverse portfolio that shapes the region's future, providing strategic leadership across planning, community development and economic initiatives while building strong relationships with the community and key stakeholders. The role supervises departmental staff, consultants and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Planning and Community Development team and advise the Leadership Team and Council
• Provide leadership and management support to the Leadership Team on operations and strategy
• Lead and manage the delivery of public health services
• Oversee compliance responsibilities for parking, environmental health, planning and building
• Support the community in making informed decisions and engage with community and business
• Manage and implement programs supporting West Coast communities and businesses, and develop projects and programs for growth and change

Required profile

• A relevant tertiary qualification
• A history of delivering positive outcomes for the community
• Ability to manage time, set priorities and plan work efficiently under pressure
• Ability to build and maintain internal and external relationships and to implement personnel policies including awards, equal opportunity and OHS

Required skills

• Analytical and investigative skills to formulate policy options
• Understanding of the organisation's long-term goals, values and the legal and political context
• Leadership and management skills, including continuous improvement

What we offer

• Salary range of $95,000-$102,490
• Housing assistance of $250 per week
