Maintenance Officer – Aged Care Facility

About the role

Mercy Health is looking for a Maintenance Officer for its Aged Care facility in Mandurah, Western Australia. Reporting to the Service Manager, the officer keeps the building, plant, equipment, furniture and gardens maintained and helps identify and act on health and safety issues so that residents, staff and visitors stay safe. The role is permanent and full-time.

Key responsibilities

• Carry out ongoing repairs and preventative maintenance of buildings, plant, equipment and furniture
• Maintain gardens, lawns and landscaped areas to a high standard, keeping them safe, clean and welcoming
• Perform routine gardening duties such as mowing, pruning, planting, weeding, mulching, fertilising and irrigation maintenance
• Liaise with contractors and report areas for improvement
• Help identify and act on health and safety issues

Required profile

• Previous maintenance experience; trade background or qualifications preferred but not essential
• Previous experience in aged care or a hotel environment is advantageous
• Ability to work independently and as part of the local team
• Resilient, compassionate and committed to resident-centred care
• Ready to provide a current Police Record Check, a trade-based qualification or more than 3 years' experience in a commercial maintenance position, and a current driver's licence

Required skills

• Working knowledge of Work Health and Safety standards and regulatory maintenance frameworks for residential aged care
• Excellent time management, organisational and communication skills, with problem-solving ability
• Proficient computer skills; experience with a computer-based maintenance system is advantageous
