Maintenance Electrician – Asset Management (Bell Bay, Tasmania)

About the role

Rio Tinto is seeking qualified Electrical and Instrumentation Technicians to join the Asset Management team at the Bell Bay Aluminium Smelter in Tasmania. The role focuses on maintaining and repairing fixed plant assets, operating on a continuous shift roster to balance work and personal commitments.

Key responsibilities

• Maintain and replace electrical equipment across the plant.
• Perform planned maintenance on PLCs, instrumentation, motor drives, autonomous forklift equipment, and other plant assets.
• Troubleshoot, calibrate, repair, and service fixed plant electrical systems.
• Execute both planned and unplanned breakdown maintenance, prioritising tasks and managing repair schedules.
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Required profile

• Commitment to personal and team safety.
• Valid C Class driver’s licence.
• Australian ‘A’ grade Electrical licence.
• Instrumentation Certificate.
• Proven experience in fault finding and repairs on electrical equipment.

Required skills

• PLC programming and SCADA operation.
• Instrumentation knowledge.
• Motor drives and VSD (Variable Speed Drive) maintenance.
• Experience with conveyors, crushers, ship loaders or similar heavy‑equipment.
