Legal Counsel

About the role

The Legal Counsel provides practical legal support on regulatory and commercial matters, reviewing and negotiating contracts while escalating complex issues to senior legal staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide timely advice on straightforward legal and regulatory issues using established playbooks and risk guidance.
• Review, advise on, and negotiate customer, supplier and operational contracts on standard and third‑party terms within agreed boundaries.
• Identify non‑standard or higher‑risk positions and escalate with clear recommendations and impact assessments.
• Partner with sales, commercial, operational, finance and delivery teams to support transactions and business objectives.
• Create or update guidance notes, clause positions, checklists and FAQs for recurring legal issues.
• Manage allocated matters from intake to completion, including status updates and document control.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with 2‑5 years post‑qualification experience, preferably with in‑house or commercial contracting exposure.
• Ability to work independently while knowing when to escalate complex matters.
• Strong drafting, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent commercial judgement and practical, risk‑based advice.
• Organised approach to matter management and competing priorities.

Required skills

• Proficiency with legal workflow, CRM and document management systems.
• Ability to adapt quickly to new and complex areas of law and regulation.
